The answer can be complicated, but Heart City Toyota Scion, conveniently located at 711 N. Nappanee St. Elkhart, IN 46514, is here to help you sort out all of the details! Some drivers are hesitant to purchase or rent hybrid or electric vehicles because of the fact that the batteries for these vehicles can be expensive and will, at some point, require replacement, but you may be surprised just how long and strong a Toyota hybrid battery is!

First, you should know that replacement is not often required of hybrid drivers. Toyota considers the battery packs found in its Toyota Prius and other hybrid models to be the "life" of these vehicles, as their batteries could last several hundreds of thousands of miles and go through many owners before the battery pack requires replacement. This claim is reinforced by such examples as the 300,000-mile Ford Escape hybrid taxis that are still going strong and the 215,000-mile 2003 Prius recently tested by Consumer Reports.

Confident in its hybrid batteries, Toyota offers its buyers an 8-year/100,000 mile warranty in most states, or a ten-year warranty in California. This warranty covers all battery replacement costs. If the battery starts to perform poorly or dies, it can be partially covered by "core credit," which gives drivers a credit for returning the packs for recycling purposes. In the 2004-2008 Toyota Prius models, the price of a battery would come at about $3,649 minus a $1,350 "core credit," with the 2009-present models about $300 more.

So, there's your answer. Your hybrid battery probably won't ever have to be replaced, but if it does, Toyota has measures in place to keep you from completely emptying your wallet.
