A little over three months ago, representatives of Toyota's youthful Scion brand had the brilliant idea to hand over a 2013 Scion FR-S (along with a check for $15,000) to three custom-car builders to (hopefully) inspire some incredible new interpretations of the vehicle. The exchange was a simple one, but the results are anything but!
The winner of the $10,000 Tuner Challenge was announced recently at this year's SEMA show. The winning vehicle was created by Chris Basselgia of Lebanon, PA and is titled Minty FReSh because of its sleek paint job. It features smoked headlights, a molded duck bill spoiler, and race mirrors on its exterior. Inside, the cabin is designed in black ostrich tones and brown distressed leather.
As for the runners up, one of them is Daniel Song of Orange Country with his FR-S GT, an all-black Batmobile-like car covered in carbon fiber and certainly race ready. The other runner up, John Toca of Chicago, built a Carbon Stealth FR-S which features smoked lights, new fender vents, custom grille inserts, and an Army tan matte paint job. Inside, this vehicle's interior is completely gutted to give the appearance of being a traditional race car with an attitude.
