If you keep up with current happenings in the automotive world, you've probably heard tell of the new Toyota RAV4 EV. This electric vehicle will be unveiled at the 26th International Electric Vehicle Symposium, located in Los Angeles, next week on May 7, 2012. This electric version of the RAV4 was originally debuted at the 2010 Los Angeles Motor Show, but since that was a couple of years ago, it should receive a bit of an update.
Details are currently sparse about the new vehicle, though Toyota has released a teaser image of its badge. The 2010 version of the vehicle was developed through a partnership between Toyota and Tesla, with Toyota providing the base Toyota RAV4 and Tesla providing the power electronics, gearbox, battery, and motor.
Toyota has assured drivers that the new RAV4fEV will go on sale to U.S. drivers by 2012, with availability in all 50 states. This places it as a direct competitor to the Nissan LEAF, though the RAV4 is a bit roomier, of course. The new Toyota RAV4 is said to boast better fuel economy ratings than its predecessor, and Toyota expects it to be a big hit!
Here at Heart City Toyota Scion, conveniently located at 711 N. Nappanee St. Elkhart, IN 46514, we can't wait to see the new Toyota EV hit the market. Be sure to stay tuned for more updates about the RAV4EV after its debut, and feel free to stop by and check out the current, gasoline-powered model. It's quite impressive as well!
