The annual Tokyo Auto Salon recently took place, and Japanese automaker Toyota certainly was prepared to "wow" everyone in attendance. The brand managed impressed attendees with a turbocharged version of its popular Toyota Yaris, or Toyota Vitz, as it's known in Japan. Toyota also presented auto enthusiasts with an interesting tidbit: the automaker will be working with GRMN on several small, direct-injection, turbocharged engines. This makes sense since it has managed to all but conquer the electric-gas hybrid market with the Toyota Prius family of vehicles.

This news isn't completely new; Toyota has used different types of turbocharged and direct-injection engines in specific vehicles before. However, the automaker has seen some of its competitors do this across their entire lineups, and Toyota doesn't like to be upstaged! The Japanese automaker has stated it will begin to collaborate with GRMN more deeply to create new technologies through a rapid development program, which is sure to create and develop  several small and mid-size engine products within the next few years. In fact, some of these engines could even be featured on selected 2013 Toyota models.

Some experts believe the 2013 model of the popular Toyota Corollawill be the first North American model to feature the technology, while others believe it will be the 2013 version of the best-selling Toyota Camry.
