It's been quite a while now since Japanese auto brand Toyota launched its 2012 Toyota "100 Cars for Good" program, a philanthropic effort which utilizes public online voting(on the brand's Facebook page: www.100carsforgod.com) to award 100 new Toyota vehicles to 100 lucky nonprofit organizations over 100 consecutive days. So far, the first three-fourths of the winners have been announced.
Every day, five nonprofit organizations are listed on the brand's Facebook site to be voted on by the public. Though only one wins the new Toyota vehicle, the "losing" nonprofits still receive a $1,000 grant. The majority of the winning organizations provide services in various areas, including: food banks, human services for adults and children, food banks, and educational programs.
President and Chief executive officer of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Jim Lentz ,explains, "As we approach the close of 100 Cars for Good, it is exciting and humbling to see how many communities and organizations Toyota touches through this program. With hundreds of thousands of votes through the program thus far, it's clear that the public is engaged and invested in seeing Toyota vehicles make their way into the community. We look forward to seeing what the last leg of the 2012 program will bring."1
