Given the global nature of today's market, it's increasingly difficult to find anything that's made here in the U.S. Yet, for many consumers, "Made in the USA" is a critical selling point. And, why shouldn't it be? It's nice to know where your car comes from and that tons of fossil fuels weren't used to transport parts from Point A to Point B. Car buyers should, however, be aware it's not always American companies that have made-in-the -U.S. boasting rights. In fact, according to data gleaned from the federal government's annual U.S./Canadian parts-content figures, the new 2012 Toyota Camry is likely to be the most American vehicle available on the market.
Furthermore, the Japanese automaker recently announced that, at 92 percent, the gasoline-powered 2012 Toyota Camry will have the most North American-sourced parts of any car available on the market. No, the geo where autos are assembled doesn't affect the government's parts-content rating. But, consumers will be pleased to know the four-cylinder and V-6 Camry cars are slated to be built at either Toyota's Kentucky or Lafayette manufacturing facilities. So, not only will gas-powered Toyota Camry have the most American-made parts...It' will actually be assembled in the U.S. Hybrid models, on the other hand, will continue to be made in Japan.
Heart City Toyota Scion would like to note that, Toyota raised the number of American-made parts used in its 2012 Camry compared to last year. Comprised of 80 percent American-made parts, the 2011 model ranks as the second-most-American vehicle on the market, missing the podium finish claimed by the 200, by a single percentage point.
