Looking for work? You might want to check out the new Toyota manufacturing plant in Blue Springs, MS. The plant began production on November 17, 2011 and plans to eventually produce 150,000 vehicles a year and employ 2,000 workers. The manufacturer currently employs 1,2000 people, and it's still hiring people for maintenance-related jobs. However, although more than 41,000 people from across the country applied for jobs at the plant, Toyota plans to take 90 percent of its workforce from MS. Workers will start at a competitive $15/hour and will benefit from health insurance, a retirement plan, and job stability in this unstable financial market.

The Toyota Corolla was the first vehicle to roll off of the assembly line last month, and a special invite-only event took place to commemorate the occurrence. The Corolla will be solely manufactured at the Mississippi plant. Toyota Motor Manufacturing MS is the company's eighth North American assembly plant and was created due to a forecasted 10 percent increase in the U.S. auto market this year. This number was almost matched, with the U.S. actually seeing about eight or nine percent growth.

Bryn Shufelt, the General Manager of a nearby Toyota dealership, speaks of the new plant's impact on his business and the state of MS: "I think it's great for our economy; it's great for our state," he says. "Our availability really won't change; it'll be the same. But, just to have the car built here, I think is just a great thing for our state, and I think it'll raise awareness around this area of the Toyota product."1
