As you've likely read, the 2012 Toyota Plug-In Prius launch is fast approaching. As such Toyota has been hosting an intensive three-year test of the vehicle in London. In cooperation with EDF Energy, the ongoing testing involves business and other organizations driving the Plug-In Hybrid Prius and reporting their data to Toyota.

Well, the interim results are in and we have to say, we're getting very excited. All signs point to the 2012 Toyota Plug-In Hybrid Prius as being the ultimate match for eco-conscious urban drivers who don't want the short lease that comes with a pure EV.

To date, participants have logged an average distance of seven-point-three miles per trip, and an average recharge time of one hour and twelve minutes. Findings also show that business and organizations with access to a domestic charge point, recharged the Toyota Plug-In Hybrid Prius more frequently. Though, as we were alluding to earlier, there is no need to stress about running out of charge with the 2012 Toyota Plug-In Hybrid Prius, as a gasoline-powered engine seamlessly takes over where the battery leaves off. Pretty coo, right?

We think so. What we think is even cooler, though, is the study's finding on fuel economy. You might want to sit down for this. Are you ready? Initial data from testing in London reveals that the Toyota Plug-In Hybrid Prius delivers on average 27-mpg more than a diesel car of similar size. And, that's just the tip of the iceberg...

Toyota is actually testing the Prius across Europe. And, data from the full European testing program indicated that the Toyota Plug-In Hybrid Prius delivers on average 36-percent better fuel economy compared to a best-in-class diesel of equivalent size and 50-percent better fuel economy compared to a conventional gasoline-powered car of equivalent size.

If this has whet your appetite to learn more about the forthcoming Toyota Plug-In Hybrid, be sure to stay tuned. Heart City Toyota Scion, located at 711  N. Nappanee St. Elkhart, IN 46514, promises to keep you up to date on all of the details (i.e., official ratings, features, technology, and pricing) as they emerge.
